El Obispo is the highest elevation of an extinct volcano and one of Ecuador’s hardest climbs. The extinct volcano El Altar or Capac Urcu reaches a maximum altitude of 5.310 m / 17.421 ft. Cayambe with its 5.790 m altitude is Ecuador’s 3rd highest mountain. Due to the volcanic activity of Cotopaxi and impossibility of climbing it , Cayambe is the most popular one. more “Climbing Cayambe (5.790 m)”
Those two mountains are a perfect combination! Iliniza Norte is one of the most popular acclimatization climbs in Ecuador and his neighboring summit, Iliniza Sur, is a great option when it should get a bit more technical. This time will be my time! After 4 attempts without summit the 5th shall be a special one to reach Chimborazo: full moon, birthday and daylight ascent.
